Bulgaria and Schengen — what does the 90/180 rule mean?
Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since 2025. Visa-free visitors may stay in the entire Schengen area for at most 90 days within any 180-day period — days in all Schengen states count together. A Bulgarian residence permit additionally allows short trips to the other Schengen states within the same 90/180 frame. The binding rules are explained on the EU portal Your Europe, linked in our directory.
