What applies to EU citizens for health insurance and treatment?
During a temporary stay, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) covers medically necessary public healthcare on the same terms as for residents. Pensioners who move their residence to Bulgaria register their home insurer's S1 form with the National Health Insurance Fund (NZOK) and then choose a GP. Details are in our guide.
