Port Prim Art Fest takes place in Burgas for the ninth time, from 7 to 10 October 2026. It opens on 7 October at 18:00 with an exhibition at the Petko Zadgorski art gallery, which stays open free of charge until 30 October. The programme includes a performance by the Plovdiv State Theatre on 8 October at 19:30, a concert moving between classical music, jazz and tango on 9 October at 19:30, and screenings from an international short film festival daily from 18:00. The organiser is the Grand Hotel and SPA Primorec with support from Burgas municipality; theatre tickets run through advance sale.

The National Health Insurance Fund and the Bulgarian Medical Association signed the three-year National Framework Contract for medical activities 2026 to 2028 on 9 September. In primary outpatient care all prices rise by an average of 4.38 per cent and in specialised outpatient care by 4.37 per cent, both effective from 1 September 2026 and topped up by a one-off payment covering the period since the start of the year. Increases of up to 10 per cent were agreed for certain hospital activities from the same date, while prices for medical diagnostic services stay unchanged. From 1 February 2027 care is paid for from the day an insured person designates a new family doctor, and the extra payment for doctors in remote and hard-to-reach areas continues.

On Sunday 13 September 2026 the stage season on Sveta Anastasia island closes with a concert by the Cuban Spirit Project. The boat leaves Magazia 1 at 18:00 that evening, earlier than on the other dates of the season. Tickets are available through the Burgas municipal tourism portal and at the tourist information centre by the Clock. The island lies some six kilometres off Burgas and is reached from the landing stage in the port.

Burgas State Opera opens October on the 6th with Georges Bizet's Carmen in the opera hall at 19:00, conducted by Ivan Kozhuharov and directed by Darina Glavanakova-Bakardjieva. My Fair Lady by Frederick Loewe follows on 13 October, the symphonic programme Musical Ikebana on 16 October under Deyan Pavlov with guests from the Musashino Academy in Tokyo, Imre Kalman's The Queen of the Czardas on 20 October and Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata on 23 October. On 26 October the ballet Don Quixote to music by Ludwig Minkus is on the bill, choreographed by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky. All of these performances begin at 19:00 in the opera hall.

Around 400 performers from some 20 groups and eight European countries will appear in Burgas from 18 to 20 September 2026. The organiser is the Association of Bulgarian Folklore Ensembles Abroad, together with the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad and CIOFF Bulgaria. Friday and Saturday are given over to the individual groups with ten minutes each, while Sunday brings a joint parade and a gala concert with all participants. The first edition took place in Veliko Tarnovo from 23 to 26 July 2025 with nine groups; the association turns ten in 2026 and intends to hold the meeting annually.

At the International Forum on Maritime Heritage and Fishing Traditions in Burgas, Dr Irena Todorova, executive director of the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO, described the Chengene skele settlement on 4 September as a model of particular significance. What is meant is a living fishing community where fishing continues and the craft is passed to the next generation, combined with exhibitions and cultural tourism operations. Burgas municipality is pursuing inscription on the World Heritage List; deputy mayor Diana Savateva stressed that this is not only about preservation but about developing the cultural and tourism complex Chengene skele. Museum and academic specialists from nine countries took part in the forum. The initiative is carried by Burgas municipality, the Regional Historical Museum and the Burgas 2032 foundation.

The Obicham Burgas concert takes place on 26 September 2026 at 19:30 at the Summer Theatre in Burgas, a day earlier than first announced. This is the eighth edition; more than 120 performers appear, among them Toni Dimitrova, Georgi Dyulgerov, the duo Burgas and Stefka Emilova, along with several dance and music ensembles. Admission is 8 euro, tickets are sold at the Chasovnika box office and on the day at the theatre box office; tickets already bought stay valid without exchange. The series belongs to the programme with which the city is bidding for the title of European Capital of Culture 2032.

The jubilee edition of the National Honey Festival “Kiril Kirov” runs until 7 September 2026 on Mesambria Square in the old town of Nessebar, daily from 9 am to 11 pm. At eleven stalls producers show honey varieties, pollen, propolis, ointments, cosmetics, wax products and ceramic souvenirs; honey lemonade is among the novelties. Nessebar Municipality supports the festival, the organiser is producer Nikolay Kirov; displays of honey extraction are announced for the 26th edition.

On 6 September at 5.30 pm the national festival “Tastes of Bulgaria” opens on the square in front of the “Prosveta 1888” cultural centre in Pomorie, with chefs from Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece; entry, food and drinks within the festival are free of charge. The organisers are Pomorie Municipality and the Burgas regional administration together with the state departments for tourism and culture. In parallel, the Pomorie Crafts Festival 2026 runs from 5 to 7 September with folklore, stilt walkers, a fire show and acrobatics for Unification Day.

Since 1 September 2026 the National Health Insurance Fund NZOK pays 10 per cent more for clinical pathways; a normal birth is reimbursed at 1,039 euros, acute kidney failure at 1,167 euros. 20 per cent of the pathway value is earmarked for medical staff, and general practitioners receive 4.4 per cent more, backdated to 1 January. From October 2026 the electronic health system shows every patient what the fund paid for their treatment and allows them to report services not received; in the first month 32 such reports came in and five contracts were terminated.

Radostina Ivanova-Mishineva, honorary consul of the Republic of Austria in Burgas since 2017 with responsibility for the Burgas, Varna and Dobrich regions, will also represent Switzerland as honorary consul, according to the Swiss Embassy in Bulgaria. The lawyer lectures in labour law and runs a law firm in Burgas. Two German-speaking countries thus have a consular contact point directly on the southern coast.

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will charge 20 euro for the travel authorisation of visa-exempt non-EU nationals, raised from 7 euro. The authorisation covers short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across 30 European countries, Bulgaria among them. The system is not yet operational; the European Commission intends to announce the exact start date several months in advance. For owners from visa-exempt states such as Israel, it is a predictable, minor entry formality.

On 25 August 2026, amendments to Regulation No 49/2014 (motor third-party liability) and Regulation No 54/2016 (Guarantee Fund registers) entered into force, establishing a bonus-malus system for liability cover. The model is centralised: the Guarantee Fund keeps a register of the past five years' claims history, which insurers access free of charge electronically; the driver submits nothing. Each insurer calculates the class under its own risk policy, likely felt in premiums from early 2027. Anyone keeping a vehicle on the coast should query their own class and compare offers for the same history.

Anyone keeping a car on the southern coast should keep two covers clearly apart. The Green Card belongs to compulsory third-party liability and covers only damage caused to others abroad – within the system’s zone, which includes Turkey and North Macedonia among others; theft or own damage are not covered by it. Theft and own damage fall solely under voluntary comprehensive (Kasko) cover, whose territorial scope should be checked in the contract before signing and extended by rider if needed. Important for travel: Kosovo is not part of the Green Card system – here a separate liability policy must be taken out at the border crossing.

In the nightlife zones around Sunny Beach, Nessebar and Sozopol, annoyances can be avoided with a few simple steps. For taxis: use only cars with a roof sign, company name and the tariff stuck to the window – the display is mandatory under Ordinance No. 34 on taxi passenger transport – and insist on a running meter. In restaurants, check the menu for price and unit, as fish and seafood are often priced per 100 grams rather than per portion; have the final price confirmed before ordering. When withdrawing cash, decline the offered instant conversion into your home currency and pay in euro, the sole national currency since 2026.

On 3 September 2026 the exhibition “Warsaw Poster” opens at the Morsko Kasino cultural centre in Burgas, with 40 works by contemporary Polish artists from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Three representatives of the renowned Polish poster school come as guests and give master classes for students. The show is held in the Georgi Baev hall and turns attention to one of the most influential poster schools in Europe.

From 3 to 7 September 2026 the Fish and Wine Festival returns to the Sea Garden of Burgas next to the Flora Expo Centre, daily from 4 pm to 11 pm. Over five days more than 100 artists perform, alongside cooking shows and workshops around fish and wine. Highlights include Kerana & the Cosmonauts on 4 September, Silvia Katsarova on 5 September and the Boney M. Experience on 7 September. Admission is free.

The Grand Hotel Sveti Vlas on the northern part of the southern coast has opened two new wellness areas: a fitness centre with strength, cardio and functional zones plus group classes, and a Reformer Pilates studio, both with a panoramic view of the Black Sea. The property has more than 2,000 square metres of spa space and five all-inclusive programmes. The expansion signals year-round, upper-tier facilities in the resort. Sveti Vlas adjoins the Marina Dinevi yacht harbour.

The ninth edition of the international historical documentary film festival DOCK takes place in Burgas from 17 to 22 September 2026. It opens on 17 September at 7.30 pm at the «Neftochimik» cultural centre; all screenings are free of charge. For the first time there is a dedicated competition for short historical documentaries as well as an audience award. The opening film is «Sylvie Vartan. Out of Love» by director Emma Konstantinova.

Anyone settling permanently on the southern coast should choose a personal general practitioner (GP) at their place of residence early on. The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF/NZOK) is the central payer; treatment at NHIF-contracted facilities is free of charge for insured persons. EU citizens with a valid European Health Insurance Card gain access at contracted doctors; for a prescription booklet and continuous care, choosing a GP is required. Contracted doctors and procedures can be found via the NHIF at nhif.bg.

Pomorie is staging the Sunset Port Festival, a boutique open-air event on its seaside promenade that peaks on 22 and 23 August 2026. The first evening features Krisko, Maria Ilieva and Mihaela Fileva among others, the second the international house producer Roger Sanchez. Around 8,000 visitors are expected; a DJ set with a water show on 14 August serves as the prelude. The format relies on live music and an international sound at sunset.

The Sea Sense boutique hotel in Sozopol has been admitted to the selection of MICHELIN Guide Hotels; the official certificate came from the tourism ministry. The property offers contemporary architecture, an infinity pool, a restaurant, wellness, sauna and gym. Bulgaria now counts twelve properties to MICHELIN standard, Sozopol alone two, the second being the Blue Bey. The distinction is a listing in the guide, not a star.

In Tsarevo the multi-day Zhivotvornost festival opened on 13 August 2026, launched by the local Tsarevo ensemble. The programme includes music, art exhibitions, creative workshops, craft markets and live performances. Tsarevo lies in the quiet, less crowded south of the coastal corridor near Sinemorets. The event enlivens the town in peak season with an offer aimed at an adult audience.

Burgas Municipality has fitted out two beaches for barrier-free access: the North Beach around SAXA BEACH and the beach in the Krajmorie district. Two mobile electric platform ramps and 20 specialised beach wheelchairs have been installed, allowing people to reach the water. On the North Beach the ramp connects to the existing wooden boardwalk, while Krajmorie has direct access from the adjoining infrastructure. The equipment was handed to the concessionaires of the two beaches.

New orthopaedic and trauma clinic hours begin on 12 August at the Dr Staykov medical centre at 33 Transportna Blvd in Burgas, near Burgas Plaza Mall. The specialist focuses on primary and revision joint replacement of the knee and hip, works with minimally invasive and navigated techniques and, according to the centre, has performed over 350 navigated knee operations. Part of his further training in revision arthroplasty was gained in Germany. He also offers interventional pain therapy with nerve blocks and targeted injections.

On 3 September the forum meets at the Chengene Skele cultural and tourism complex, on 4 September at the Ethnographic Museum in Burgas. It is organised by Burgas Municipality, the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage under the auspices of UNESCO, the Burgas 2032 Foundation and the Regional History Museum. Expected participants include the University Network for Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe as well as museums and specialist bodies from Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Cyprus and Italy. The programme places fishing and seafaring heritage within tourism and cultural strategy, and forms part of Burgas's bid for the European Capital of Culture title in 2032.

Singer Georgi Dyulgerov gives a birthday concert titled "My gift for Burgas" at the Burgas Summer Theatre on 7 September at 19:30. Free tickets have been available since 5 August at the box office of the ticket centre by the Clock Tower, and numbers are limited. Singer Yordanka Hristova joins as a special guest. For coastal residents the date shows that the city's cultural programme continues well beyond the peak season.

Greek singer Agathangelos Agathangelou performs on Sveta Anastasia island off Burgas for a second time on 28 August 2026 at 21:00; the first date sold out, so an additional concert was scheduled. On the evening of the event the boats to the island leave from the Magazia 1 pier in Burgas harbour at 20:00, and arriving earlier is advisable. The small monastery island a few nautical miles offshore is one of the bay's sought-after summer excursions. Buyers on the southern coast find a dense cultural offering within easy reach in Burgas.

In Tsarevo on the Strandzha coast, the 23rd edition of the festival of Strandzha manna honey and flower pollen runs from 1 to 10 August 2026 inclusive. The stalls stand in the art zone of the central Han Asparuh street, offering regional manna honey, flower pollen and other bee products. Strandzha manna honey is a protected regional product. For the southernmost coast around Tsarevo, Ahtopol and Sinemorets the festival is a fixed summer date.

At the entrance to the Marina Nessebar yacht harbour, the producer Bio Aqua Ferm opened its own sales point for fresh Black Sea mussels on 24 July 2026. The mussels come straight from the farm's own beds near Nessebar and Ravda and are cultivated using Norwegian SmartFarm technology without chemical treatment or preservatives. They are sold without middlemen, with preparation tips. For residents and guests at the marina this is a small but visible gain in local supply.

For Nessebar's town holiday, Vasil Naydenov performs on 15 August at 22:00 in front of the Old Town's fortress walls. The programme for the Assumption runs on 14 and 15 August, and the municipality expects 15,000 to 17,000 visitors on the isthmus and around the fortress. A closing drone show with a light and music display traces glowing figures over the sea and the Old Town. For owners on the coast, 15 August is traditionally one of the busiest days of the season.

In central Burgas, the boutique hotel 'EFES' has opened with 20 modern rooms and apartments. Located at 15A Han Krum Street, it is a 10- to 15-minute walk from the Central Beach and open all year. Facilities include a conference room for up to 30 people, a lobby bar and 24-hour reception. New, year-round properties support rental demand outside the peak season too.

A new youth centre has been officially opened in Pomorie, financed through the national Recovery and Resilience Plan in the area of education and skills. The building offers space for meetings, training, volunteering and cultural and educational activities. The opening drew guests from comparable centres in Stara Zagora, Aytos and Burgas for an exchange of good practice. Such public facilities lift the quality of life of a year-round coastal town.

On 4 August 2026 the 'Star Tenors' perform in Sozopol, and on 5 August in Primorsko. The stage brings together the Bulgarian tenors Mario Nikolov, Stefan Petkov and Andrey Mirchev with the Greek tenor Georgios Filadelfevs, accompanied by the Vidin Symphony Orchestra under Petar Dimitrov. The programme spans opera and operetta arias, Italian canzonettas, Spanish zarzuelas and twentieth-century classics. This is the second edition of the project, organised by the Art Music Centre.

On 30 September 2026 at 7 pm Dire Straits Legacy perform at the Burgas Summer Theatre as part of their farewell tour. The band includes musicians who shared the stage with Mark Knopfler, and the programme features the well-known Dire Straits hits. The date sits deliberately late in the season, at the end of September. Tickets are available through the regular advance sale.

From 1 to 31 August 2026 the Morsko Kasino cultural centre in Burgas presents the exhibition 'Butterflies and Diamonds – From Sir Peter Blake to Damien Hirst'. It features works by Sir Peter Blake, Marc Quinn, Damien Hirst and the Connor Brothers, open daily from 10 am to 9 pm; the opening is on 31 July at 6.30 pm. It is staged by the DG Art Gallery under the auspices of the Municipality of Burgas. The show is part of the cultural programme supporting the city's bid to become a European Capital of Culture.

From 14 to 23 August 2026 Burgas hosts, for the first time, the BOOM Summer Fest at the Sea Station, a ten-day festival with more than 400 participants. The programme blends music, film, theatre and talk formats; on 17 August the Pleven Philharmonic performs a symphonic ABBA programme. Entry is free, with support from Burgas Municipality. The festival extends the cultural season into the second half of August.

From 27 August to 6 September 2026 Sozopol again hosts the 'Apollonia' arts festival, the largest cultural event on the southern Black Sea coast. The programme features more than 70 events with over 700 participants: classical concerts, folklore, jazz, pop, rock, theatre, film screenings, exhibitions and literary evenings. Performances take place in the historic old town and at the 'Apollonia' amphitheatre right by the sea. The organiser will publish the full programme in the coming weeks.

From 24 to 26 July 2026 the Wine and Spirits Fest runs at the 'Flora' exposition centre in Burgas. More than 30 Bulgarian and foreign wineries and importers present over 500 wines and spirits. A separate tasting zone with limited access is reserved for rare collector's wines, champagne, aged whisky, cognac, armagnac, grappa, craft gin and liqueurs. The event is part of the city's growing calendar of food and cultural dates.

On 25 July at 8.30 pm Verdi's A Masked Ball opens this year's opera nights at the Thracian sanctuary of Beglik Tash near Primorsko. Ivaylo Krinchev conducts and Alexander Tekeliev directs; the series is staged by the Burgas State Opera together with the Municipality of Primorsko. Two more evenings follow: Carmina Burana on 1 August and Nabucco on 8 August, both at 8.30 pm. Open-air opera at an archaeological site of this calibre gives the southern coast a cultural accent that reaches well beyond the beach season.

The 18th edition of the 'Soleni vetrove' ('Salty Winds') singer-songwriter festival takes place on 31 July and 1 August 2026 on the 'Ohlyuva' open-air stage in the Burgas Sea Garden, from 5.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening. Twenty-five soloists, four duos and one group are announced, including guests from abroad. The programme features song evenings, a humorous section and the 'Against the Wind' competition with eleven new original compositions; the winners are announced at the close.

From 21 to 24 July 2026 Burgas dedicates four evenings to Japanese culture. The programme includes an introduction to Japanese history, a film evening with expert commentary, impressions from EXPO 2025 with a look at the Japanese economic model, and an evening on Japanese literature. The series, run by the Japanese studies department of Sofia University, starts at 6.30 p.m. each day and admission is free.

From 24 to 26 July 2026 the 'Wine & Spirits Fest Burgas 2026' takes place at the 'Flora' Expo Centre in Burgas. More than 500 wines and spirits from over 30 producers in Bulgaria and abroad are announced. On 25 July at 5 p.m. an international tasting competition with an awards ceremony is held. The event is organised by the Municipality of Burgas with partners, presenting the southern coast as a wine region too.

Burgas is, alongside Sofia, one of two cities shortlisted to host the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest. Bulgarian National Television announced this on 13 July 2026; an international working group assesses the bids under the criteria of the European Broadcasting Union. Varna and Plovdiv were eliminated in the first stage, and the final decision is expected by 31 July. The Arena Burgas is named as a possible venue in the city.

Pomorie expects around 8,000 visitors on 22 and 23 August 2026 for the two-day 'Sunset Port Festival'. The open-air music event takes place for the first time in the newly renovated harbour zone by the fishing port. For residents and owners around the bay, the upgraded quayside is a visible piece of urban renewal that stays long after the season.

From 16 to 19 July 2026 Pomorie again hosts its Riben Fest, with the official opening on 17 July at 20:00 on Sveti Sveti Kiril i Metodii Square. Founded in 2023, the festival centres on the town's fishing tradition and pairs regional sea cuisine with concerts, an open-air painting session, an exhibition and a children's programme. For coastal residents it is a quiet fixture of the summer that keeps the harbour heritage alive.

Bulgarian director Anri Kulev has started shooting his new feature film Pilots at the Burgas salt pans. Ivan Barnev and US actor John Erik Bentley play the leading roles; the story is set in 1943 and 1944 and then leaps decades ahead, when the main characters' paths cross again in Burgas. The film-makers chose the Black Sea salt pans as a backdrop with few equals worldwide. The city sees such productions as part of its cultural tourism.

On 28 June 2026, Nessebar staged the SwimRun Nessebar — according to the municipality, the only contest of its kind in Bulgaria. Competitors complete three laps of about 400 metres swimming around the headland and 2,400 metres running along the seafront promenade, either solo or in relay teams. The start and finish are on the promenade of the new town. The municipality aims to promote an active lifestyle and sports tourism.

On 24 June 2026 a new long-distance walking route opened, running 81 kilometres in seven stages from Malko Tarnovo through the Strandzha mountains to Sozopol. The stages range from 7 to 16.5 kilometres and pass through Stoilovo, Vizitsa, Pismenovo, Primorsko and the Arkutino nature reserve. The route is supported by the municipalities of Sozopol, Malko Tarnovo, Primorsko and Burgas, the Strandzha Nature Park and a tourism association. For owners in the south it opens a fresh way to walk and enjoy nature away from the beaches.

In Ezero Park next to the equestrian base in Burgas, the 2026 sand sculpture festival is taking shape under the motto Sand Heroes from the Screen, with figures from animation, cinema and video games. The exhibition runs from early July to the end of September, with sculptors working several thousand tonnes of sand. The show forms part of the city's bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2032. For families on the coast, it is an outing away from the beach that stays open all summer.

For the eighth consecutive year, Burgas Free Tour offers free guided walks in summer 2026: daily at 10 am in July and August, lasting about an hour and a half, in English. The meeting point is the Clock Tower opposite the tourist information centre, and the route runs through the city centre and the Sea Garden. Booking is via burgasfreetour.com, though simply turning up at the start also works. For new owners and their guests, it is an easy way to get to know the city.

On 12 July 2026 at 8.30 pm, Lili Ivanova performs at the summer theatre in Burgas, as part of her nationwide 2026 tour. One of the defining voices of Bulgarian music, she regularly fills the country's open-air stages during her summer concerts. For owners in Burgas and along the coast, it is an evening that takes place on the doorstep, with no long journey required.

On 11 and 12 July 2026, the Flora exhibition centre in Burgas turns into a stage for music, dance and art: the third edition of Burgas Open Fest, under the motto All Aboard, opens on both days from 4 pm, with free admission to everything on the programme. The festival is run by the Burgas Open Space association with support from the municipality, and it forms part of the city's bid to become European Capital of Culture 2032. An open, easy-going summer weekend for anyone living in Burgas or keeping a holiday flat here.

The Yavorov open-air cinema in Pomorie screens films daily from 3 to 9 July, starting at 9.15 pm, with a second showing around 10.45 pm on several evenings. The programme includes Toy Story 5, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael. Tickets cost 6 euros for children up to 16 and pensioners, 7 euros for adults — with a sea view from the cinema grounds. An easy summer evening for anyone living in Pomorie or keeping a holiday apartment here.

The tourism ministry has launched the digital campaign Come and Enjoy the Cool Weather in Bulgaria, positioning the country as a pleasantly temperate, affordable and varied destination during Europe's summer heatwaves. The advertising runs on Google and Meta in ten markets, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. The ministry expects a season on a par with last year, with visitor numbers possibly 2 to 3% higher. Greater visibility for the coast also supports rental demand in the Burgas region.

The aviation museum at Burgas Airport marks its ninth anniversary on 4 July with a full-day programme and free admission. On display are ten original aircraft, including the legendary Tu-154 and an An-12, plus a Tu-134 flight simulator, children's workshops, an acrobatics show and an evening concert. The museum brings civil, agricultural and military aviation together in one place. For families with a holiday apartment nearby, it makes a rewarding outing away from the beach.

Right beside the Pomorie salt pans, the Salt Museum shows how sea salt has always been harvested here: the sun does the work, drying the brine the old Anhialo way. It is the only museum of its kind in Bulgaria, and in all of Eastern Europe. Salt-making, the healing liman mud, and the lye drawn from the salt lake still shape life in the town, and they give the whole area its quiet, restorative character, a place people come to for the cure and for wellness.
