The municipality of Nesebar reminds parents that attendance in preschool and school education remains compulsory for certain age groups in the 2026/2027 school year. Children born in 2021 fall under compulsory preschool education pursuant to Art. 8(1) of the Preschool and School Education Act, and children born in 2019 under compulsory school education pursuant to Art. 8(2) of the same act. Parents must enrol their child at the relevant educational institution and ensure regular attendance; failure to comply triggers penalties under Art. 347 of that act.

On 18 September 2026 Pomorie municipality opens the redesigned seafront zone in the Sveti Georgi residential quarter. Its centrepiece is a massive stone composition by sculptors Darin Ganchev and Filip Filipov, created under the direction of Milcho Talev at the «The world is sea» plein air; a ship's propeller from the fishing harbour is worked into the piece. Green areas with drip irrigation, palms and benches complete the scheme.

On 11 September 2026 Pomorie municipal council published the agenda of its 56th session. It opens on 17 September at 10.00 in hall 2 of the municipality. The first item is report OS-695 on adopting the 2026 budget. Next come a design brief for a development plan in Kableshkovo (OS-670) and consent to a ban on lorries above eight tonnes on road BGS 2143 (OS-704). Also on the list are a purchase offer for a building in Bata (OS-707) and a mandate for the mayor to negotiate a plot in Kableshkovo (OS-722). Added to these are the 2025 annual accounts of Medical Centre 1 (OS-710) and two representation decisions. One of them concerns the general meeting of UMBAL Burgas AD on 12 October 2026.

The grape harvest in Burgas district entered its active phase on 8 September 2026. Wholesale purchase prices stand at 0.50 to 0.60 euro per kilogramme; Muscat Ottonel around Karnobat fetches 0.80 to 1.00 euro and Merlot near Sungurlare about 0.90 euro. White varieties dominate the harvest, among them Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and growers report good quality after a difficult previous year. Marketing remains the bottleneck, because supply exceeds the processing capacity of many wineries.

The European Commission records that Bulgaria and Romania became full members of the Schengen area on 1 January 2025, once checks on persons at the internal land borders had been lifted; at air and sea borders this had already happened on 31 March 2024. For the drive from central Europe to the southern coast this means that anyone travelling through Hungary and Romania and crossing into Bulgaria at Ruse or Durankulak no longer has a third-country border on the route. The route through Serbia and the Kalotina crossing, by contrast, has two external borders and therefore two points where queues build. Before departure the route deserves two questions: does it include a border with a non-Schengen state, and is there an alternative crossing for it. The return leg is checked at the same time, because a queue works in both directions.

The regional utility ViK Burgas publishes, village by village, where water supply in the Pomorie district is restricted. For the village of Kosicheno it lists a daily 15-hour rationing from 18:00 to 09:00. The page also carries announced interruptions in the town of Pomorie itself, most recently on Friday 28 August in the area of the summer cinema because of a fault. Anyone viewing a property in the coastal hinterland should open this page before the preliminary contract, search for the place name and take the result into the negotiation in writing. A supply regime is no reason to walk away, but it belongs in the price and not in the first summer week after moving in.

The Municipality of Pomorie announces that the Director of RIOSV Burgas has issued decision No. BS-3-5/2026 under the environmental impact assessment procedure. It concerns the investment proposal for construction of a photovoltaic power plant on the plots with identifiers 57790.4.75 and 57790.4.76 under the cadastral map of the village of Poroy, locality „Chernitsata“, Municipality of Pomorie, together with an amendment of the PUP-PZ development plan for a photovoltaic plant for generation and storage of electricity on those plots; the developer is „EYPEYS“ OOD. The decision is published at www.riosvbs.com under Preventive Activity/EIA/EIA Decisions.

Pomorie municipality has published eight monthly reports: on cash budget execution, on accounts for third party funds, on funds from other international programmes, plus three reports on EU funds (cohesion and structural funds via the National Fund, the paying agency of the State Fund Agriculture, and other EU funds). A statement of overdue receivables and liabilities and an explanatory note complete the set. The notice is by Sofia Andreeva, dated 11 September 2026, and points to the municipality's Viber channel for further news.

Bulgaria and Türkiye want to speed up construction of a second border crossing at Kapitan Andreevo. The new point will be built north of the existing crossing and is intended solely for heavy goods traffic; its proximity to existing infrastructure is meant to keep building costs down. Both sides declared themselves ready to sign the agreement within days and are setting up a joint expert commission for the technical specification. Kapitan Andreevo is the busiest land border in the EU. Upgrade and reconstruction work is running in parallel at the Lesovo and Malko Tarnovo crossings, the latter being the closest crossing to the coast from Burgas.

The Municipality of Pomorie has invited representatives of the tourism association and the local trade to an extended session of the advisory council on tourism on Friday, 18 September 2026 at 17:30 in the municipal art gallery Dechko Stoev. Two items are on the agenda: the results of the 2026 summer season and how Pomorie will present itself as a destination at the Eurovision showcase in 2027. The invitation is signed by Mayor Ivan Alexiev. It does not yet give season figures; these will be presented at the session.

The village administration building in Lozenets is back in operation after a full refurbishment. The interior, the facade and the equipment for staff and citizen services have been renewed. The handover took place on 11 September 2026 in the presence of Mayor Marin Kirov and other officials. The municipality does not state costs, construction time or the funding source in its notice. Lozenets is the second largest settlement of the municipality after Tsarevo and the point of contact for address registration, property tax and the waste fee for owners based there.

The municipality of Tsarevo is putting new street sweepers into service in Lozenets, Tsarevo and Ahtopol. They are financed from an EU project and from funds returned out of the charges paid to the regional environmental inspectorate. Further equipment is to follow step by step for the remaining settlements of the municipality, without a date being given. The municipality does not state the number of machines or their purchase cost in its notice of 10 September 2026.

Operator Fraport Twin Star reports more than three million passengers handled at Burgas and Varna combined since the start of 2026, even though Burgas only resumed flights in May: the runway was rehabilitated at a cost of over 60 million euro. Both airports record double-digit growth from Poland, Israel, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium and France. Burgas added Rome to its network, and charter programmes from France are returning after a break of several years. Varna gained Athens, Barcelona, Budapest, Gdansk and Paris, with Basel following from October. For the full year the operator expects more passengers than in 2025.

The municipality of Burgas has closed the section of Lyuben Karavelov Street between Maria Luisa Boulevard and Debelt Street, including the junction with Debelt Street. The closure began on Monday 31 August 2026 at 15:00 and is planned to last four months, that is until the end of December. The reason is repair and resurfacing work on the carriageway. The municipality points to a temporary traffic scheme in the affected area and advises using alternative routes without naming specific ones. It gives no figure for the cost.

Modernisation of the Plovdiv to Burgas railway has passed 80 per cent physical progress, Flagman reported on 10 September. The scheme runs to more than 373 million euros and is co-financed under the Transport Connectivity programme 2021 to 2027. So far 309 kilometres of track and 51 kilometres of overhead line have been renewed, 24 level crossings have been closed and replaced by bridges or underpasses, and the 744-metre tunnel near Chirpan is complete. Once finished, passenger trains are to run at 160 and freight trains at 120 kilometres per hour. A further 78 million euros in the same programme is earmarked for five new trainsets.

The draft budget of Burgas municipality for 2026 comes to 356,592,267 euros and was tabled on 10 September. Road infrastructure is allotted 9.1 million euros, street cleaning 20.5 million, street lighting 1.8 million and green spaces 3.3 million euros. The draft first passes through the standing committees and goes to a vote at the end of September. Its focus lies on educational buildings, energy refurbishment and healthcare.

Sozopol municipality published order number 8-Z-654 of 16 July 2026 on 10 September. It approves the detailed development plan for parcel 67800.44.48 in the Mapi locality and forms from it regulated plot VI-44.48 of 2,548 square metres, with a further 109 square metres passing into street land. The designated use is resort and complementary activities together with a substation. The plan is on display at the spatial planning directorate at Han Krum Square 2, with the notice posted from 10 to 23 September. The order may be appealed within fourteen days through the municipality to the administrative court.

TUI Nordic is bringing forward the start of its flight programme from Stockholm to Burgas and will operate an additional direct flight from Stockholm Arlanda on 10 May 2027. Burgas Airport announced the plan. The date falls before the main part of the Eurovision 2027 song contest programme, so Swedish travellers can stay in the country for the whole week. For the southern coast the earlier start means an extra way in from early May rather than only in high season.

On 9 September the Municipality of Nesebar announced that Order No 2940 of 3 September 2026 approved the amendment of the detailed development plan for regulated plot V-956 in block 56 of Obzor, cadastral identifier 53045.501.400. The zone changes from purely residential to mixed multifunctional use, and the designation from housing construction to car servicing, vehicle testing, shops and housing. The parameters move with it: permitted height falls from 14.00 to 12.00 metres over one to four storeys, the minimum green area from 40 to 30 per cent and the floor area ratio from 2.00 to 1.5, while built density stays at 50 per cent. The plan can be inspected at the spatial planning department in the Obzor town hall, 2 Ivan Vazov Street, room 8.

On 9 September the Municipality of Sozopol published a draft detailed development plan for the plot with identifier 67800.53.23 in the Mapi locality. It provides for a change of designation and the creation of two new regulated plots, numbered VI-53.267 and VIII-53.268, both for resort use and supporting activities. Protection zone B under the Black Sea Coast Act applies together with development zone Ok/12: height up to 10.00 metres, built density up to 30 per cent, floor area ratio up to 1.0 and a minimum of 50 per cent green space, half of which must be tree cover. A new cul-de-sac with a turning area of 12 by 8.87 metres is planned in addition. Objections may be lodged within 14 days of publication; the notice stays posted until 23 September 2026.

The municipality of Burgas has completed several education building projects for the 2026/27 school year. In the coastal district of Kraymorie a new building for the “Al. G. Kodzhakafaliyata“school offers eight classrooms, specialist rooms, a STEM centre, a gym, a swimming pool and medical and speech therapy rooms. “Vasil Aprilov“school has gained a new wing with 104 places and a lecture room for 116, and the “Alen Mak“kindergarten in Sarafovo an extension for two groups with 50 places for children aged three to seven. A branch of the “Nadezhda“kindergarten in the Pobeda district adds another 50 places, and the site for a new build in the Vetren district has already been designated.

The municipal council of Karnobat adopted the 2026 budget unanimously on 9 September: more than 34 million euros, rising above 35 million after the expected updates, and some 4.5 million more than in 2025. Local taxes and fees stay unchanged, although the municipality reports food prices up 15 per cent and fuel and electricity up 30 per cent. Some 170,000 euros are earmarked for running costs in the outlying settlements. Nearing completion are the “Golden Lake“park with a December 2026 deadline, the town square, the wastewater treatment plant, the water intakes and the servicing of the new residential areas.

The municipality of Burgas is a partner in ComActivate, a project funded under the LIFE programme. The project has produced a platform that shows, as a 3D model, the potential energy savings of multi-family residential buildings in the Vazrazhdane complex once energy efficiency measures are carried out. The platform is at an early stage of development; over the coming months it is expected to cover more complexes in Burgas and to refine the results for each individual building.

Tsarevo municipality reports 17,000 registered overnight stays for 6 September, in other words full houses at a point when the season on the southern coast used to be over. The fish festival drew 12,000 to 13,000 visitors over a weekend, and direct turnover for the businesses involved exceeded one million euros. The municipality is working to turn a peak season of six weeks into a year-round offer, using an events calendar, road works, parks and orderly traffic management. Lozenets, Ahtopol and Sinemorets report strong late-summer trade, along with families from the larger Bulgarian cities buying a second property there.

The Ministry of Regional Development publishes a weekly account of which settlements are under restricted water supply. The report of 8 September, covering 31 August to 7 September, lists 45 municipalities nationwide, three towns with 20,054 and 109 villages with 44,199 inhabitants, a total of 64,253 people affected. In the Burgas service area two villages with 368 inhabitants are recorded, and none of the coastal towns between Rezovo and Sveti Vlas appears on the list. The heaviest burden falls on the Kyustendil area with 17,712, Gabrovo with 10,297 and Veliko Tarnovo with 7,677 inhabitants.

Work has started on the underpass beneath “Prof. Yakim Yakimov“Boulevard, which links the Slaveykov housing complex with the fast-growing Madika district. The scope covers a new switch cabinet, complete rewiring, energy-saving LED lighting, video surveillance, replacement of the stone cladding and the flooring, and new metal railings. This underpass has 153,387.56 euros earmarked, and the municipality's two structures together 383,468.91 euros; the funds were approved in December 2025. The second underpass at Nikola Petkov Boulevard is to follow next.

Earth masses have slipped on the road to Brodilovo in Tsarevo municipality. On 8 September 2026 the municipality introduced temporary traffic management on the affected section so that the material can be removed, the carriageway cleaned and the section secured. The arrangement applies until the works are finished and traffic flows normally and safely again. Drivers are asked to observe the signs and follow instructions on site; the municipality answers questions on 0590 55010.

From 8 to 10 September 2026 the National Social Security Institute, together with Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund and Deutsche Rentenversicherung Mitteldeutschland, advises on insurance periods completed in both countries. Sessions run daily from 9:00 to 16:30 at the territorial office in Pleven, Ivan Mindilikov Square 8. The advice is free and given in Bulgarian or German; an appointment must be booked beforehand on 02/926 16 80 or 0882 187 680, or by message to ConsultDay@nssi.bg. Applicants should bring insurance records, certificates and diplomas, an identity document and birth certificates where periods of raising children are to be counted.

The Environment Programme 2021 to 2027 earmarks 362.52 million euros for improving air quality; 78.36 million euros, or 21.6 per cent, have been disbursed so far. Funding goes to 45 projects in 21 municipalities where exceedances of the daily or annual limit values for fine particulate matter were recorded between 2017 and 2021. So far 7,952 of 75,500 planned heating units have been replaced, mostly solid fuel stoves giving way to pellet burners, heat pumps and air conditioning units. An annual reduction of more than 2,100 tonnes of fine particulate matter is expected, alongside some 250 hectares of green infrastructure and low emission zones in Sofia and Plovdiv restricting high emission vehicles during the heating season. A Swiss-Bulgarian partnership with a budget of 15 million francs is renewing the national quality assurance system by the end of 2029, and a mobile application is to supply readings in real time.

On 2 and 3 September 2026 the municipality of Pomorie hosted a meeting of the Recircle Med project for the second time, a project supporting blue and circular economy in tourism. Partners from Italy, Greece, Malta, North Macedonia and Montenegro met at the Dechko Stoev Municipal Art Gallery, with the Greek University of Thessaly as lead partner. The topics were more efficient use of water and energy, waste reduction, sustainable mobility and turning natural and cultural assets into tourism experiences; the proposals will feed into a Blue Action Plan for the municipality.

According to the health ministry, patients in Bulgaria pay more than 40 per cent of health expenditure out of their own pocket, against a European average of 17 to 18 per cent. A system for assessing treatment quality is to be adopted by the end of 2026; it is being agreed with the medical profession and is meant to make weak facilities visible. Greater transparency about payments outside compulsory insurance has also been announced, so that an insured person can see what they are entitled to, in cooperation with the National Health Insurance Fund. On the same account, the first hundred days advanced investments under the recovery and resilience plan, accelerated the emergency medicine project and produced draft legislation on full traceability of medicinal products and on central procurement.

On 2 September the municipality of Nessebar published notice no. N2-UT-3095-001, a draft plan for quarter 1 in Obzor South. It changes the regulation lines of plots 53045.503.319, 53045.503.106, 53045.503.299, 53045.503.313, 53045.503.332, 53045.503.333, 53045.503.297, 53045.503.325 and 53045.503.320 as well as 53045.225.87 and 53045.225.91 in order to form a coastal alley and secure a continuous footpath up to the new concession boundary of the beach. The alley covers 5,743 square metres. The file is held at Obzor town hall, 2 Ivan Vazov Street, room 8.

The official public holidays are listed in article 154 of the Labour Code. Where a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is a non-working day with the same legal status; the General Labour Inspectorate states this rule expressly. Work on an official holiday is paid at least at double rate, and for overtime the supplement doubles again. For buyers travelling in for an appointment this turns hope into planning. Checklist: enter the holidays of the travel month before booking the flight; allow for the shift rule when a holiday falls at the weekend; place appointments with migration, cadastre, notary and the Registry Agency on Tuesday to Thursday within a full working week; avoid the days immediately before and after a holiday, where the backlog is worked off; plan a spare day as a buffer in case a document has to be submitted later; couple the notary and registration appointments into the same block of the day; have the opening hours of the specific office confirmed by telephone beforehand.

The Municipality of Pomorie informs all interested natural and legal persons of a notification received through RIOSV Burgas for an investment proposal under Art. 4 para. 1 of the Ordinance on the conditions and procedure for carrying out environmental impact assessment. The proposal is the Black Sea Scientific, Educational and Nature Conservation Centre for the Marine Environment in Pomorie, located in plot UPI XXII, quarter 217 of the town development plan, land parcel with identifier 57491.508.249 in the cadastral map. The developer is PROPARTIS PS EOOD; the notice from the UTOOS department is dated 3 September 2026.

Burgas and Varna airports have reached Level 3, labelled Optimisation, in the Airport Carbon Accreditation run by the world airport body ACI. Operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management announced this on 4 September 2026. Level 3 requires an airport to count the emissions of its on-site partners as well – airlines, ground handlers and state bodies – and not its own alone. The basis at both sites was new photovoltaic capacity, renewed infrastructure and energy-saving plant technology.

Work on the underpass at Nikola Petkov Boulevard between the Izgrev and Zornitsa districts starts in late September 2026 and is planned to last several weeks. The municipal company Obshtinski imoti, headed by Tina Pisarova, is in charge. The structure has to be finished before late April and early May 2027, when Burgas hosts the Eurovision Song Contest and the underpass is needed as a pedestrian link. Some of the shops in the passage have to clear out for the works and the municipality is offering replacement space nearby; other shops stay and will trade on in renewed premises after the overhaul.

On 4 September 2026 the mayor of Sozopol issued order 8-Z-0796 prohibiting the use of fireworks, signal rockets and other pyrotechnic articles. The ban applies on public ground, in residential buildings and at catering venues throughout the municipality and addresses residents, guests and visitors. It is justified as a preventive fire-safety measure to reduce risk across municipal territory. The order names no end date; it runs until the municipality expressly lifts it.

On 3 September 2026 representatives of the municipalities, the provincial administration, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water, the forestry administration, the agriculture directorate, the fire service, the Poda nature conservation centre, the Bulgarian Red Cross and meteorological and conservation bodies met in Burgas for a working session on adapting the region to climate change. A crisis scenario was played through to test coordination between the agencies in floods, forest fires and extreme heat. The municipality of Burgas presented a geographic information platform that evaluates risks and supports decisions in an emergency. The session ran within the European project TiCCA4Danu, in which Burgas serves as a model city.

At a meeting with the tourism trade in Nesebar on 4 September 2026 the Ministry of Regional Development proposed transferring the public infrastructure of the Sunny Beach resort from the joint stock company Slanchev Bryag to Nesebar municipality, and the water and sewer network to the responsible utility. Today streets, alleys and public spaces belong to the company while businesses pay their local charges to the municipality, and the cost of repairs, lighting and upkeep has been disputed for years. An earlier offer to sell the infrastructure to the municipality for the equivalent of some 38.3 million euro was called unacceptable. A voluntary transfer is preferred; should it fail, legal routes are to be examined. An extension of the resort's ring road together with the municipality was also announced.

Nessebar Municipal Council meets on 4 September 2026 at 1.30 pm in the Melsas hall with 36 agenda items. The list includes the amendment of Ordinance No 11 on local taxes and fees, the closing of the 2025 budget and the 2026 draft budget tabled on 21 August, the reconstruction of a water main and two public competitions: building rights on municipal non-residential plots and the letting of shops in a building on Chernomorska Street in Obzor. Items 17 to 35 concern detailed development plans, mostly in Sunny Beach West and Sunny Beach East, plus Kosharitsa and Tankovo; in Kosharitsa the question is the change of use of an agricultural plot in the Drakta locality.

Burgas Municipality is restoring the road surface of Angel Dimitrov Street in the Sarafovo district, on the section from Albatros Street to the Sarafovo military recreation home. The street will be partially closed in stages from 3 September 2026. The temporary traffic arrangement will remain in place for four months.

On 27 August 2026 Pomorie Municipal Council decided unanimously, with 19 votes, that Mayor Ivan Aleksiev negotiates with the co-owners on buying their shares in the two-storey house at 1 Stefan Karadzha Street. The municipality so far holds 35.160 of 199 ideal shares and wants to acquire the remaining 163.84; no purchase price has been named yet. The house is to remain the permanent seat of the society “Anhialo”, founded in 1992, which was granted three rooms of around 35 square metres there in 2009. The decision falls in the year in which Pomorie commemorates the burning of Anhialo 120 years ago, in 1906.

On 1 September 2026 Fraport Twin Star reported three million passengers handled at Burgas and Varna airports since the start of the year. Burgas resumed operations on 1 May after its runway had been rehabilitated for more than 60 million euro. New in the route network this year are Athens, Barcelona, Budapest, Gdansk, Paris, Rome and Basel, with Greece, Spain and Italy added as source markets. Traffic from Poland, Israel, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium and France grew by double digits. Ryanair serves Rome from Burgas, Wizz Air expanded in Varna, and Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, Discover Airlines, Jet2.com, TUI and Bulgaria Air held or raised their capacity. The operator expects the year to end above the 2025 result.

The border police daily bulletin of 3 September, 6 am, reports heavy traffic at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing for cars entering and lorries leaving; no congestion is reported for Lesovo and Malko Tarnovo. All Bulgarian border crossings operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For the drive from the southern coast to Istanbul, Malko Tarnovo on the E-87 is the nearest crossing; it is designed for cars and coaches, so lorry queues do not build up there.

Between 1 June and 31 August, the emergency department of the Burgas university hospital carried out over 13,500 examinations, an average of 150 patients per day. More than 6,000 of those examinations took place in the paediatric and orthopaedic units, roughly 1,000 per month each. In the same period 6,851 people were admitted for inpatient treatment, close to 90 percent of them as emergencies.

The Road Infrastructure Agency API restricts heavy traffic around the public holiday on 6 September: on Friday 4 September from 3 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday 5 September from 9 am to 2 pm, lorries over 12 tonnes may not use the Trakia, Hemus and Struma motorways leaving Sofia. On Monday 7 September the ban applies from noon to 8 pm in the direction of Sofia. Exempt are scheduled passenger services and transports of dangerous goods, live animals, perishable and temperature-controlled goods.

On 2 September construction began on the three-storey extension of the “Lyuben Karavelov” primary school in the Vazrazhdane district of Burgas; the old north wing and the old gymnasium are being demolished. The new building adds five classrooms and a modern gymnasium, raising capacity from around 570 to around 700 places. The cost is the equivalent of around 1.18 million euros excluding VAT, funded by the Ministry of Education from 2024, and the construction period is at most 360 calendar days.

Five bids have been received by the Road Infrastructure Agency API for updating the design and the major refurbishment of the Trayanovi Vrata tunnel at kilometre 53 of the Trakia motorway; the estimated value is 40,433,152.49 euros excluding VAT, funded from the state budget. The tunnel has been in service since 1985; the tube towards Burgas is 720 metres long and was last repaired in 1996/97, the tube towards Sofia 685 metres, last repaired in 2002/03. The works cover waterproofing, ventilation, drainage, a new carriageway, two emergency cross-passages between the tubes, fire suppression and energy-saving lighting; design takes 60 days, construction 365 days.

Bulgaria Air is boosting the Sofia–Burgas–Sofia route for the Eurovision Song Contest, adding up to two extra flights a day from 2 to 19 May 2027. The service uses the Airbus A220, the newest type in its fleet. Afternoon departures join the regular evening flights in the run-up to the shows, with additional morning returns after the final on 15 May. For owners on the southern coast, the connection via Sofia widens noticeably for that period.

The ministry of regional development and public works intends to finish the concept and detailed plan for the roughly 94-kilometre Black Sea motorway between Varna and Burgas by the end of 2027. The route is part of a coastal corridor running from Malko Tarnovo via Burgas and Varna to Durankulak, with Bulgaria working alongside Turkey and Romania. Construction is to proceed under a concession: a private investor builds the road and is paid through a general road-use charge, without necessarily requiring toll booths. For the southern coast, the extension towards Malko Tarnovo means better connection of the corridor to the Turkish border.

Mayors in the Burgas region have committed to working faster on their general spatial development plans (PUP), and the state intends to speed up approval. Nationwide, 52 municipalities still lack a comprehensive spatial plan. For the region's tourism-driven municipalities these plans matter most, because they steer local development. The same talks covered the planned Black Sea motorway and the need for roughly 800 kilometres of new motorways and expressways.

For the 2027 summer season several airlines are expanding their links to Bulgaria's Black Sea coast. From May 2027 Jet2 adds eleven routes to Burgas, including from Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and East Midlands. From 9 May to 3 October 2027, ICC connects Hanover, Düsseldorf and Leipzig/Halle with Varna and Burgas, with at least 14 flights a week and three weekly services each on Hanover–Burgas and Leipzig/Halle–Burgas. Corendon adds Cologne/Bonn, Austrian flies Vienna from 8 May, and Bulgaria Air runs up to two daily Sofia–Burgas flights around the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

The municipality of Sozopol has notified an investment proposal: the construction of one mixed-use residential building each on three plots in the town (UPI VI-406, IX-409 and X-410, cadastre 67800.3.406/409/410). The project is going through the notification and environmental-review procedure under the Spatial Planning Act. It sits in a central location on and around the old-town peninsula. New residential buildings requiring permits signal continued construction activity in the core of Sozopol.

The municipality of Sozopol has published Mayor's order No 8-z-682 of 27 July 2026. It approves a detailed development and regulation plan (PUP-PRZ) for plot 61042.13.30 in the 'Halvad' area near Chernomorets. Such plans set building, density and access for a specific plot. For the coastal corridor around Sozopol it is a further step in development.

Bulgaria's four airports with scheduled service recorded 91,067 commercial flights in 2025, up 5.2 per cent on 2024, according to Eurostat using EUROCONTROL data. Sofia saw the largest absolute rise with 2,229 additional flights, Varna 1,994 and Burgas 75. Across the EU, 6.9 million flights were counted, 3.8 per cent more than the year before. For owners on the south coast, the growing connectivity through Burgas and Varna matters most.

Tsarevo municipality's 2026 budget amounts to 25,940,595 euro, of which 5,111,410 euro for the investment programme on municipal facilities and 4,959,585 euro for EU-funded projects. Planned items include the Lozhenets–Velika road with a contractor selected, wastewater treatment plants in Sinemorets and Varvara, a new water pipeline network for the Strandzha villages and the modernisation of Tsarevo's fishing port. For the Rezovo–Sveti Vlas coastal corridor these are concrete location signals. Anyone buying around Ahtopol, Lozhenets or Sinemorets should keep these projects in view.

Sozopol municipality has publicly announced an investment proposal to build recreation and resort buildings, together with a secondary street, on the plot identified as 67800.43.58 in the Mapi locality. The step is public participation within the environmental impact assessment under the Spatial Planning Act (ZUT); the documents are held in the Environment Ministry's EIA register. Building parameters are not yet named in the notice. For prospective buyers in Sozopol this shows ongoing construction activity, and also how early projects can be tracked officially.

Bulgaria expects a noticeable return of German holidaymakers: two major airlines have together announced around 100,000 flight seats, with the first flights due to start on 15 May 2027. The tourism ministry said so on 27 August 2026 on the sidelines of the opening of the Apollonia Festival in Sozopol, adding that the ministry is also in talks with further airlines about additional capacity. The German market has traditionally been an important source of demand for the Black Sea coast. Specific airlines and individual destination airports have not yet been named.

There is a new development vision for the island of St. Kirik and Julita off Sozopol: it is to become an international hub for culture and science. The concept rests on three pillars – the history and cultures of the Black Sea region, underwater cultural heritage and archaeology including a possible UNESCO centre for the Institute of Underwater Heritage, and marine sciences from marine biology to climate research. The plan was presented on 27 August 2026 by the Culture Ministry together with the Sozopol municipality and the Burgas regional administration. Concrete investment sums and a timetable have not yet been named.

The municipality of Nessebar is continuing its programme for cleaner air, replacing old solid-fuel heaters, stoves and fireplaces in 1,320 households free of charge with energy-efficient appliances. The scheme runs until 2029. So far around 900 applications have been received, about 400 contracts signed, roughly 350 new appliances installed and 451 old units removed. Residents bear no cost.

The historic Turkish city of Edirne is easy to reach from the southern coast. By bus the operator Arda Tur runs the Burgas–Kırklareli leg in about three hours, with the onward stretch to Edirne taking around one hour, roughly five hours in total for about 17 to 26 euro. By car the road distance is around 167 kilometres and the driving time about two hours 40 minutes, via a Turkish-Bulgarian border crossing. For entering by car, a valid passport and Green Card insurance belong in the glove box.

The Burgas airport development fund is launching an international advertising campaign to boost the low season from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. The estimated contract value is about 660,000 euro excluding VAT for six months. It targets foreign markets with proven travel intent via airline databases, booking platforms and tour operators; plain mass advertising on social media is excluded. The fund, set up by coastal municipalities in 2024, aims to establish year-round air connections.

Bulgaria's first Ronald McDonald House is being built in Burgas, right next to the Sveta Anastasia children's hospital in the Zornitsa district. It is to have 18 family rooms with shared kitchens, a laundry and quiet zones for relatives of children in longer inpatient care, whose stays average around 20 days. Construction, fit-out and operation are financed entirely by the Ronald McDonald Bulgaria foundation. The project signals the city's maturing health infrastructure.

On 17 August 2026 the municipality of Pomorie began site preparation and fencing for a new wing of the Ivan Vazov school in the town centre. The new building for the primary section is financed through the EU programme for construction, extension and reconstruction of nurseries, kindergartens and schools, Module 2. The project expands the education infrastructure in the centre of Pomorie. Construction start and further steps follow once the preparation is complete.

Several bus lines run from Burgas to Istanbul, including Metro Turizm, Arda Tur, Citylines and LikeBus, with pure travel times from about five hours. The road distance is around 306 kilometres; by car it is roughly four hours depending on route and border clearance, via the Malko Tarnovo/Derekoy crossing or the motorway through Kapitan Andreevo. For entering Turkey by car, a valid passport and Green Card insurance belong in the glove box. The southern coast thus sits within comfortable day-trip range of Istanbul.

More air connections to the southern coast are emerging for the 2027 season. On 20 August 2026 the Tourism Ministry and airport operator Fraport named concrete plans: airline Corendon plans new links from Cologne, Nuremberg and Stuttgart to Burgas and Varna, and talks with Condor concern around 15,500 seats to Burgas from Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Leipzig. Further proposals from a tour operator cover about 250 flights and around 50,000 seats to both coastal airports. Confirmations from the airlines are still pending.

Burgas airport welcomed the one-millionth passenger of the current season on 30 July 2026, a day earlier than in 2025. The traveller arrived with Wizz Air from Katowice in Poland; the airline provides more than 260,000 seats in Burgas in 2026 and is the second-largest carrier at the site. Since 2006 Wizz Air alone has carried over 2.7 million passengers to and from Burgas. The figures confirm the continuing upward trend in air travel on the southern coast.

The Turkish section of the railway from the Bulgarian border towards Istanbul reaches an important milestone: the 153-kilometre Cerkezkoey-Kapikule stretch is due to open by the end of 2026 and is designed for up to 200 kilometres per hour. Passenger travel time on this section falls from four hours to 90 minutes, and annual capacity rises from 600,000 to nearly 3 million travellers. From the southern coast Turkey is close anyway: the southernmost crossing at Malko Tarnovo is only about an hour's drive from Burgas, and Istanbul is a good 300 kilometres away. Travel options are your own car via the border crossings and several direct buses a day.

Pomorie municipality has put a draft amendment to the zoning and regulation plan for four neighbouring plots in the Kamenar district on public display (notice under Article 128(3) of the Spatial Planning Act, dated 6 August 2026). It concerns plots UPI V, II, VII and VI in block 22, with cadastral identifiers 57491.601.300, .294, .302 and .303. Objections may be lodged within 14 days of notification. The notice does not yet state specific building parameters.

Nessebar municipality has announced a zoning-plan amendment for a plot in the Inzaraki neighbourhood of Sveti Vlas (UPI I-793, block 40; notice No. N2-UT-5745 of 5 August 2026). The plan keeps the «Жм» zone, that is low-density, low-rise residential development. Those affected may object within 14 days of notification. Sveti Vlas forms the northern anchor of the region's coastal corridor.

Sozopol Municipality is carrying out a comprehensive modernisation of the Summer Theatre: new spectator seating, new stage lighting and sound equipment, additional dressing rooms and changing facilities, improved accessibility, and renewed outdoor areas and stage technology. The project is financed under the Interreg Bulgaria–Turkey 2021–2027 programme together with the partner municipality of Vize. Seat replacement begins once the active summer season ends, with completion scheduled for February 2028. The venue carries a substantial part of the old town's cultural programme.

When the air temperature reaches 35 degrees, lorries over 20 tonnes are barred from several main routes in Burgas between 11.00 and 21.00. The measure covers Zahari Stoyanov Street (road II-79), Odrin Street (road III-9008), road I-6 near the Lukoil junction and the Jumbo access, and road III-906. The mayor's order applies until 1 September 2026; the municipality announces the restriction on affected days by 11.00 through its own channels. Exceptions cover dangerous goods, perishable food, livestock transport, emergency and firefighting vehicles, and journeys ordered by the authorities.

The Sofia-based University of Forestry is opening a branch in Burgas with up to 280 study places, following clearance by the national education authorities. It will teach landscape architecture, wood technology and furniture production as well as forestry, with admissions starting in forestry. A dedicated complex with a university building, halls of residence and staff accommodation is planned. The declared aim is to keep young people in the region and train specialists for the local economy.

Bulgaria's tourism and transport authorities, Black Sea municipalities and airport operators, including Fraport for Burgas and Varna, have presented a programme to improve air connectivity. At its core is a fund for connectivity and marketing intended to finance incentives for airlines and the opening of new routes. Poland, Czechia, Israel, the United Kingdom and Romania are named as growth markets, with Germany treated as a strategic market. The partners plan to review results together every six months.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is providing up to USD 1.5 billion for the new Istanbul North Rail Crossing (INRAIL), whose total cost is put at around USD 8.27 billion. The line of roughly 122 to 127 kilometres runs from Çayırova on the Asian side across the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge to Çatalca on the European side; passenger trains are to run at up to 160 km/h. Freight transit across the Bosphorus is set to fall from 13 to 3.6 hours, and the connection to Istanbul Airport from 120 to 65 minutes. For the south coast the perspective matters: the build-out strengthens the rail corridor on the European side towards the Bulgarian border, while for drivers Malko Tarnovo remains the shortest way from Burgas to Istanbul.

From Monday 4 August 2026, light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes may cross the Malko Tarnovo–Derekoy border between Bulgaria and Turkey in both directions; until now it was closed to freight vehicles. Up to 500 vehicles are allowed in each direction per week, a maximum of 3,000 weekly, with goods presented under a transit procedure and customs seals. It was agreed by Bulgaria's National Customs Agency and the Turkish trade ministry, and is meant to ease the busy Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo crossings. Malko Tarnovo lies about 75 road kilometres south of Burgas, a good hour's drive along road II-99; the Turkish town of Kırklareli is some 45 kilometres further on.

Since 1 August, an additional team of the Emergency Medical Centre has been working in Nessebar to cover the sharply higher demand in peak season. The municipality had previously bought and provided an extra ambulance. In summer the population of the coastal towns multiplies, and the need for medical care rises accordingly. Reliable emergency care matters equally to owners and holiday guests.

Two route options are currently being developed for the planned Black Sea motorway between Varna and Burgas; the road is about 94 kilometres long and part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Both main options provide for a second bridge over Lake Varna, about 550 metres long in the main variant. The project is still at an early planning stage and no cost estimate is available. A continuous coastal motorway would noticeably improve access to the southern coast.

The municipality of Burgas is refurbishing two heavily used underpasses, one on Nikola Petkov Street, the other near the Lidl store in the Slaveykov district. The work includes new energy-efficient LED lighting, video surveillance and renewed pavilions, stone cladding, flooring and railings. The aim is safer, more pleasant pedestrian routes by day and night. The municipality did not give a cost.

According to the Bulgarian State Railways BDZ, the summer 2026 timetable runs seven direct trains a day from Sofia to Burgas. The fastest is the ICF 3621 intercity express, leaving at 06:10 and arriving at 11:59, a journey of 5 hours 49 minutes. Further direct departures fall in the early afternoon and late evening. Anyone arriving via the Sofia hub can reach the southern coast reliably without a car.

The Bulgarian-Turkish crossing closest to the coast is Malko Tarnovo, according to Burgas Municipality 75 kilometres south of the city and just 9 kilometres from the border. An international road runs through it towards Tuerkiye. Istanbul lies roughly 300 kilometres from Burgas via Malko Tarnovo and Dereköy, or about 380 kilometres via the larger Kapitan Andreevo crossing, some four and a half to five and a half hours of driving plus border processing. Besides your own car, scheduled coaches from the South bus station in Burgas link the coast with Istanbul; there is no through train.

On 30 July 2026 Burgas Airport welcomed the millionth passenger of the current summer season, a day earlier than the year before. The milestone guest arrived on a flight from Katowice in Poland, one of 170 passengers on board. This season the airport serves more than 70 direct destinations, according to the operator. Reaching the million mark early underlines steady demand for the southern coast.

The municipality of Burgas has thoroughly rebuilt Targovska street, a key axis of the south-western industrial zone. It now has two lanes of 3.5 metres each, a new storm-water drainage system, parking on both sides, new pavements, a two-way cycle path, new lighting and underground cable ducts. According to the municipality, more than 50 plots with business premises line the street. Better access in the commercial area supports jobs and the local economy around Burgas.

A new seaside park called 'Ekoton' is being built in the Sarafovo coastal district of Burgas. The contract is worth around 2.527 million euro excluding VAT, with a construction period of 320 days. Plans include footpaths and cycle paths to the beach, an amphitheatre with a sea terrace, rest zones with pergolas and six interactive installations. The main alley extends the existing Burgas pedestrian zone all the way to the water.

Black Sea Ferry Services connects Burgas with Batumi in Georgia, once a week each way. Departure from Burgas is late on Friday evening and the crossing takes around 60 hours. Alongside freight the ferry carries passengers in four-berth cabins, which can also be booked for one or two people. A car costs around 480 euro, a minibus around 670 euro. Booking is by e-mail with the operator; there is no online portal.

On 29 July 2026 the health ministry granted an operating licence to the newly built children's hospital 'Sveta Anastasia' in Burgas. The new building holds 142 beds and several paediatric departments, including paediatric surgery, cardiology, neurology, oncology and intensive care. The municipal hospital was constructed with financing that included the European Investment Bank. Free preventive examinations are planned from August, and the application to the health-insurance fund is being prepared.

New vignette tariffs for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and M1 category motor caravans apply on Bulgaria's national road network from 1 August 2026. The annual vignette costs EUR 64.50, the quarterly EUR 35.90, the monthly EUR 19.90, the weekly EUR 10.00, the weekend EUR 6.60 and the daily pass EUR 5.30. The compensatory fee for driving without a valid vignette is EUR 46.50 for this vehicle class. For anyone travelling a lot along the coast, the annual vignette remains the cheapest option.

On 30 July 2026 Pomorie commemorates the destruction of ancient Anchialo 120 years ago, when many residents left their homes in 1906. The programme opens at 9 am with a liturgy at the 'Holy Transfiguration' church in the old town; at 11.30 am the mayors of Pomorie, Nea Anchialos (Volos) and Thessaloniki sign a joint partnership declaration. At 6 pm a historical talk follows at the 'Detcho Stoev' city gallery, and at 8 pm the concert 'Meeting of the Anchialo families' at the 'Prosveta 1888' cultural centre. The day links history, church and the town twinning with Greece.

In Burgas the city-owned company Burgaski Pazari EOOD runs the public markets, among them the central market 'Krasnodar'. It has its own laboratory testing fruit and vegetables for nitrate and ammonia, a quality advantage no beach kiosk offers. Four steps for owners and guests: 1) locate the nearest municipal market, in Burgas for example 'Krasnodar', 2) ask locally for the market days, 3) buy fruit, vegetables and fish there rather than at the promenade kiosk, 4) compare the market price against the promenade price once to know the benchmark. This is practical local knowledge that makes settling in on the coast easier.

For a jet ski, parasailing or banana boat it is worth checking, before booking, the official register of the Ministry of Transport that lists the approved water bases and corridors on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast for the 2026 season. For each zone the register gives the number, the beach, the operator, the approval date and the permitted attractions. Five steps: 1) check in the register whether the base is listed with its zone and operator, 2) book only approved bases, 3) ask about liability insurance, 4) require equipment such as a harness and life vest plus a safety briefing, 5) book only against a receipt. This lets you judge an operator's reliability in advance and without prior knowledge.

Since 21 July 2026 WizzAir has flown twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays) directly between Burgas and Warsaw. The link is part of the expanded summer schedule at Burgas airport, which reopened on 1 May after a runway rehabilitation costing over 50 million euros. New this season are also Ryanair to Rome Fiumicino (twice weekly), Jet2 to London Gatwick, Transavia to Paris Orly and Volotea to Lille. For the southern coast this noticeably improves direct access from western and central Europe.

Funding for rehabilitating the Djulino Pass on the Panitsovo–Gyulyovtsa section is secured, an investment of around 43 million euros from the state budget. Asphalt laying is to begin no later than 15 August 2026 and be completed by 15 November 2026. For the further sections Gyulyovtsa–Orizare and Gyulyovtsa–Sarafovo, construction is set to start from 1 September. The Burgas Regional Administration is responsible.

The South Bus Station in Burgas currently lists up to 15 daily departures to Istanbul: Arda Tur runs at 7.00, 10.00, 12.45 and 22.40, plus 1.30 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays; Metro departs at 5.45, 12.15, 13.00 and 23.15, and Nişikli six times a day between 0.30 and 16.00. By car the route via the Malko Tarnovo border crossing is around 330 kilometres, with a realistic driving time of about five hours. For residents of the southern coast, the metropolis on the Bosphorus with its two major airports is within day-trip range – for a weekend, shopping or an airport transfer.

Road agency API is halting heavy goods traffic over 12 tonnes on Friday 24 July from 4 pm to 11 pm and on Sunday 26 July from 3.30 pm to 10 pm on the Trakia and Struma motorways and through the Kresna Gorge. Scheduled buses and hazardous goods, livestock and refrigerated transports are exempt; the Sub-Balkan road I-6 serves as the alternative route towards Burgas. The aim is smooth and safe holiday traffic in the peak hours towards the Black Sea. Anyone driving to or from the coast at the weekend will feel the difference immediately in the outside lane.

The National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts opens three bachelor programmes in Burgas for the 2026/27 academic year: acting for drama theatre, animation and film design, and dance and performance. In acting, 10 of the 18 places are already taken (3 state-funded and 5 fee-paying places remain), while animation is fully booked with 8 places. Online registration for the remaining places runs from 26 to 28 August, with entrance exams on 1 and 2 September at the Adriana Budevska Theatre. For Burgas this means year-round student life and a growing cultural scene that carries the city beyond the season.

A new STEM centre opened on 23 July at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Burgas State University, funded by the Ministry of Education. It is equipped with educational robots, laboratory models and flexible learning spaces, with a focus on robotics, programming and digital technologies. The centre trains future teachers for science and technology subjects and strengthens research into modern teaching methods. The educational offering in Burgas grows once again – a factor regularly underestimated in decisions about relocating to the coast.

On the new railway between Istanbul and the Bulgarian border, test runs have been completed on the 153-kilometre Çerkezköy–Kapıkule section near Edirne; after the ongoing certification, the section is due to enter service by the end of 2026. The double-track, electrified line is designed for 200 km/h and equipped with the European ERTMS signalling system. The overall Halkalı–Kapıkule project (229 kilometres, over one billion euros, co-financed by the EU) cuts passenger journey times from four hours to 90 minutes and freight times from 8.5 to 3.5 hours. For the southern coast, the prospect of reaching Istanbul quickly by rail via Edirne is drawing closer.

The municipal council of Burgas has published the draft agenda for its session on 28 and 29 July. Items include street regulation plans for new access roads in Tvarditsa, Banevo and Izvor, as well as routes for power and water mains. Also on the list are a leisure sports facility with a children's course, the complete renovation of a car park and upgrading of the spaces between residential blocks in Meden Rudnik, and the renewal of the pedestrian underpass by the opera house. For owners such agendas are worth a look: they show early on where the city is investing in infrastructure.

Since 21 July a new direct service has linked Burgas Airport with Radom in Poland, with two flights a week. After Warsaw, Gdansk, Katowice and Lublin, Radom is already the fifth Polish city with a direct connection to the southern coast. Seat capacity to Burgas this summer is 32 per cent higher than last year. For owners on the coast this means the growing Polish source market can reach the Black Sea even more easily.

Bulgaria is preparing a nationwide mobility app that will show timetables, fares and the real-time movement of all public transport in the country. Travellers are to combine train and bus journeys with a single shared ticket; operators will feed their data into a national access point. The regulation governing the system is currently out for public consultation. For coastal residents without a car, planning trips between Burgas and the seaside towns would become considerably easier.

Renovation of road III-99 between Otmanli and Yasna Polyana is under way: since 17 July two trial sections have been in progress, one using chemical soil stabilisation, the other cold recycling. The trial phase lasts seven days and is accompanied by laboratory tests. Following reports from residents, the regional administration inspected the site on 20 July and confirmed that machinery and workers are in place and the route remains safe to use. The road is an important access route for the villages between Burgas and the southern coast.

Anyone jumping into the sea from the Burgas pier risks a fine of 500 euro. Rocks and metal debris lie beneath the bridge, warning signs in four languages point this out, and beach wardens and police enforce the ban. Since 1 July eleven lifeguard posts have been staffed on the northern beach. For families on the city beach, the consistent supervision adds a measure of everyday safety.

On 20 July 2026 the municipality of Sozopol published the draft of a heat-resilience and climate-adaptation strategy for 2025 to 2035. The document is being developed under the EU project 'Green solutions for climate adaptation' within the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin programme and focuses on reducing summer heat islands and making infrastructure climate-proof. Residents can comment on the draft for one month. For owners on the southern coast this is a good signal: the resorts are planning for hotter summers over the long term.

On road III-906 across the Dyulino Pass, asphalting is due to begin by 15 August 2026; within the municipality of Pomorie, 15 November is named as the target for completing the section. The project covers 65.6 kilometres in total; the first section from Staro Oryahovo to Gyulyovtsa runs more than 34 kilometres and is budgeted at around 43 million euro. The second section via Kableshkovo to Sarafovo is to start in September once permits are complete. The route links the hinterland of the Nesebar and Pomorie municipalities with the Burgas area.

The listed building at 45 'Slavyanska' Street in central Burgas is being rebuilt in its original form under an approved project. The structure was so badly compromised that straightforward renovation was no longer possible; work has been under way since 21 May 2025 with the permission of the culture ministry. An inspection found no breaches of the conditions. For buyers of historic houses the case shows how reconstruction within heritage rules proceeds.

The municipality of Nesebar has presented its budget report as of 31 December 2025 and reports stable execution. Own revenues reached the equivalent of around 41.9 million euro, carried by local taxes, fees and concessions. In addition, EU programme funds went into infrastructure and environmental projects. Sound municipal finances are good news for owners: they pay for roads, water mains and the upkeep of the resorts.

Because of construction and installation works on 'Sv. Panteleimon Lechitel' Street, Burgas is closing a section in the 'Zornitsa' residential district on 15 and 16 July 2026, each day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The affected stretch runs from block 46 to the car park of the 'Perla' complex. The municipality asks drivers to use the signposted detour. Such short closures accompany the ongoing road works of the summer.

On 10 July 2026 the Municipality of Tsarevo called on owners of land plots to remove dry grass and brush and to keep their plots in good condition. This applies to yards, undeveloped parcels and green spaces across the whole municipality. The background is preventive fire safety in the hot, wildfire-prone season on the southern coast. For owners of holiday and residential property, regular upkeep of the plot is therefore also a matter of safety.

From Saturday 18 July 2026, Burgas again runs its summer line 17A on weekends and public holidays between the Meden Rudnik residential district and the coastal Kraymorie quarter. The service is operated by the municipal transport company Burgasbus. The line makes it easier to reach Kraymorie beach in the peak season. For residents of the southern districts it improves the connection to the coast.

The Road Infrastructure Agency (API) will carry out no road-surface repairs during the summer months on the trunk roads leading to the Black Sea resorts and to the border crossings with Greece. Planned asphalt works on Route I-9 between Obzor and Sunny Beach, for example, have been postponed. The aim is greater safety and smoother traffic in the main travel season. For arrivals and daily life on the southern coast this means calmer journeys during the season.

On 10 July 2026 Tsarevo's municipal council unanimously approved an application for the project 'Support for pupils with talents' under the 'Education' programme 2021–2027. The aim is funding to modernise teaching and support gifted children. At the same time the municipality joined the regional association of municipalities 'Trakia' to strengthen joint projects. For families on the southern coast, such educational infrastructure is one of the softer location factors.

Burgas is starting construction of its first roundabout on Zahari Stoyanov Boulevard, replacing the existing four-arm junction with the road to the Gorno Ezerovo district ('Kapcheto'). From 13 July 2026 at 9:30 a revised traffic arrangement applies there. The aim is better flow at the entrance and exit of the large Meden Rudnik residential district. For residents and commuters it should mean shorter waiting times at one of the city's busiest junctions in the medium term.

Because of the jet ski world championship at Didi Beach in Sarafovo, bus lines 15 and 15A run on a special, denser timetable from 10 to 12 July 2026. On Friday and Saturday between 17:00 and 17:40 the buses stop at the roundabout in front of Burgas Airport instead of the terminal; the same applies on Sunday from 17:00. Passengers heading to a flight in that window should allow a few minutes on foot. Outside it, services run as usual.

The municipality of Tsarevo has presented a remote-controlled rescue buoy — the first public institution in Bulgaria to acquire such a device. The buoy can reach a person in distress quickly and safely across the water; the municipality invested 8,052.12 euro including VAT. Its first deployment comes within days, securing the municipal swimming marathon. Safe beaches are one of the southern coast's quiet advantages.

On 9 July 2026 the water association of Burgas province approved the utility's detailed investment programme for 2026. It covers all 13 municipalities of the region: water mains will be repaired or replaced throughout, alongside household sewage and rainwater drainage and works at the Kamchia and Novo Panicharevo reservoirs. Sozopol additionally registered the renewal of pipes along Vitosha Street. For owners on the coast this means gradually more reliable utility networks.

For the season, the Ministry of Tourism and the Consumer Protection Commission have stepped up their joint inspections along the Black Sea coast. Checks cover, among other things, beach safety, the correct display of prices in euro and leva, and menus and price lists at venues. In around 130 inspections at more than 70 beaches and some 60 establishments, eleven breaches were found, mainly in price labelling; on the beaches there were five notices about lifeguard and rescue services. For guests and owners, this brings more reliable service and safety.

The Municipality of Burgas has begun building a new wing of the “Proletna daga” kindergarten in the village of Marinka. The two-storey building will accommodate 56 children in one nursery and two kindergarten groups, raising total capacity to 96 children in five groups. It will include a lift, an accessible bathroom on the ground floor and a sports and a music room. Such investment strengthens the residential villages around the city.

In the Burgas area, two road refurbishments are close to starting. The Burgas–Kableshkovo route will be fully rebuilt over 31.5 kilometres, with a construction time of 540 days; the Burgas–Kableshkovo section begins from 15 September 2026. The 21.4-kilometre link between Rosen, Otmanli, Veselie and Yasna Polyana will be renewed together with a new water main for Rosen. The Road Infrastructure Agency and the Burgas Regional Road Authority are in charge — better roads ease access to the southern towns.

Duni South Beach, about seven kilometres south of Sozopol and 40 kilometres from Burgas, carries the Blue Flag for the 2026 season. Across the country, 32 beaches and marinas have received the international environmental award of the Foundation for Environmental Education. The quiet stretch in the southern part of the Duni holiday village offers marked paths, sanitary facilities and a serviced area with umbrellas and loungers. For owners on the southern coast, the award is a tested marker of water quality and well-kept beachfronts nearby.

Bulgaria's road agency API is restricting lorries over 12 tonnes on the Trakia and Struma motorways on Friday 3 July from 4 pm to 11 pm towards Burgas and Kulata, and on Sunday 5 July from 3.30 pm to 10 pm towards Sofia. The Podbalkan road I-6 serves as the alternative route. The arrangement eases the main routes during the peak hours of summer travel. Anyone driving to their coastal apartment at the weekend gets through more smoothly.

From 10.30 am on Friday 3 July, a temporary traffic scheme applies for one month in Kraymorie, the coastal district of Burgas: Glarus Street is closed between Hristo Arnaudov Street and Sirena Street. The reason is work on the district's water and sewerage network. Residents should allow for small detours in the short term — in the medium term, the growing residential district gains renewed utility infrastructure.

Mayor Dimitar Nikolov presented the city's student campus project to the rector of Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, Turkey, an institution with around 40,000 students. The talks covered cooperation in higher education, including guest lectures. Notably, the municipality itself is developing the campus project. A growing university presence supports year-round demand for housing in Burgas, well beyond the summer season.

The Municipality of Sozopol has published the summer timetable for the bus line Santa Marina – Sozopol – Kavatsi – Green Life – Dyuni. The line connects the holiday and residential complexes south of town with the centre of Sozopol. The full timetable is available on the municipal website. Owners in the complexes along the route can reach the old town, harbour and shops comfortably without a car.

From 29 June to 2 July, traffic on coastal road I-9 between Obzor and Sunny Beach is being halted nightly from 20:00 to 07:00 (kilometres 172+900 to 202+940). The reason is final resurfacing works, deliberately scheduled for the quiet night hours so the route is ready for the peak season. Road III-208 Provadia–Aytos serves as the diversion. Anyone driving to their coastal property during these days is best advised to travel in daytime.

According to European Environment Agency data presented by the Ministry of Tourism, 96.9% of Bulgaria's bathing waters achieve an excellent rating. This places Bulgaria third in the EU, behind Cyprus (100%) and Greece (97.1%), with the EU average at 84.8%. The Black Sea coast thus enters the summer season with very good water quality. For owners and buyers on the southern coast, this is a dependable location factor that is verified year after year.

In summer 2025, Burgas Airport links the southern Black Sea coast to over 70 routes across more than 20 countries. New this season are Austrian Airlines scheduled flights from Vienna, plus connections to Riga and Edinburgh. For anyone who owns a property on the coast, that means a direct route here from a wide range of European cities.

The municipality of Sozopol lists the old town on the peninsula as an architectural and historical reserve, placed under protection back in 1965. More than 180 residential houses from the 18th and 19th centuries survive there. The settlement itself was founded in 610 BC as Apollonia Pontica. Narrow lanes climb above the harbour, and they make the historic centre one of the more distinctive locations along the southern Black Sea coast.
