Chernomorets
Chernomorets sits on the southern shore of Burgas Bay, the largest bay along Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, roughly 25 kilometres southeast of Burgas. The town occupies the Sveti Nikola peninsula and carried that same name, Sveti Nikola, until 1951. What began as a fishing village officially became a town on 2 December 2009. Today 2,163 people live here (NSI, as of 31 December 2025), which makes Chernomorets a permanently inhabited coastal town rather than a purely seasonal settlement. Follow the coastal road southeast and you reach Sozopol; just offshore to the east lies the island of Sveti Ivan. Travellers arriving by air land at Burgas (BOJ), about 10 kilometres north of the provincial capital in the Sarafovo district.
