Buy a car in Bulgaria or bring one from Germany — and which car suits the roads?

Buy a used car in Germany rather than in Bulgaria. A large share of the used cars here were imported from Germany, Italy or the Benelux countries anyway — transport and dealer margin make them noticeably pricier than in the country of origin, and odometer tampering or careless servicing are common. Even with the Bulgarian re-registration, a used car bought in Germany usually works out cheaper. For new cars it is the opposite: compare prices — brands such as Dacia or Škoda can be markedly cheaper than in Germany. On the choice of car: the roads vary widely — from new motorways to minor roads in poor condition with deep potholes, plus high kerbs because of the sometimes heavy rainfall. A vehicle with high ground clearance is advisable, ideally an SUV; lowered cars and sports cars are out of place here. Minibuses, vans and seven-seaters are also in demand and easy to resell. In short: a used SUV from Germany — and compare first for new cars. Svetlana helps with registration and import.
