What is the story behind Bulgarian yogurt and the topic of longevity?
Many consider Bulgarian yogurt the best in the world — and it has its own bacterial culture, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, first described by the Bulgarian scientist Stamen Grigorov in 1905. The Nobel laureate Élie Metchnikoff linked it to a long life: lactic acid bacteria were said to crowd out harmful gut microbes and thus slow ageing — the origin of today's longevity idea. In Japan and much of Asia, Bulgarian yogurt is still a bestseller (for example "Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt"). Anyone who enjoys Bulgarian cuisine and the region's many thermal and spa baths will find a fitting combination of health and pleasure here — Svetlana is happy to show you the good addresses.
