How do I pass on a property in Bulgaria?

Decide yourself which succession law applies instead of leaving it to chance. Under the EU Succession Regulation you may expressly choose the law of your nationality in your will; without a choice the law of your last habitual residence applies. A will is valid either entirely in your own handwriting with date and signature, or notarised before two witnesses. You cannot override the compulsory share: in Bulgaria it is one half of the estate with one child and two thirds with two or more children. For tax, the spouse and children and parents in the direct line are exempt from inheritance tax, more distant heirs pay. A notarised will is entered in the register of the Notary Chamber and can be found later.
