How does the climate differ between the southern and northern coast?

The southern coast has the milder and sunnier climate. Burgas records around 2,200 hours of sunshine a year, Varna in the north around 2,100. The reason is the Stara Planina range that divides the country: Mediterranean air masses reach the south, while continental cold air from the northeast pushes into the north. Several degrees regularly separate the two stretches of coast, and the south is markedly more sheltered from wind. The far south around Sozopol, Primorsko and Tsarevo up to the Strandzha is especially Mediterranean and mild. To be fair, on the January average Varna is at times marginally higher. But on sunshine and wind shelter the south is clearly ahead, and the warm season lasts longer. The advantage is noticeable. For buyers that means more usable months a year, indoors and out.
